Negative Feedback Loops

Meaning

The primary homeostatic regulatory mechanism in endocrinology and physiology where the output of a system acts to reduce or inhibit the stimulus that originally initiated the process. This self-regulating system ensures that hormone concentrations and physiological parameters are maintained within a narrow, healthy range, preventing excessive or deficient activity. It is a fundamental principle governing the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axes.
