Negative Feedback Inhibition

Meaning

Negative feedback inhibition is the primary and most critical homeostatic mechanism within the endocrine system, where the elevated concentration of a final hormone product acts to suppress its own production at the level of the pituitary and/or the hypothalamus. This self-regulating loop is essential for maintaining hormone concentrations within a narrow, physiological set point. It prevents the excessive secretion of hormones and ensures systemic stability.
