Nausea and Vomiting

Meaning

Nausea represents the subjective, unpleasant sensation of an impending urge to vomit, frequently accompanied by autonomic symptoms such as pallor, sweating, and salivation. Vomiting, or emesis, is the forceful, involuntary expulsion of gastric and sometimes duodenal contents through the mouth, a protective reflex coordinated by the central nervous system.
