Natriuretic Peptide System

Meaning

The Natriuretic Peptide System comprises a group of hormones, primarily A-type natriuretic peptide (ANP), B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), and C-type natriuretic peptide (CNP), which play a vital role in regulating fluid balance, electrolyte homeostasis, and systemic blood pressure. These peptides act as a counter-regulatory mechanism to the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, promoting vasodilation and excretion of sodium and water to reduce circulatory volume and cardiac workload.
