Nanocarriers

Meaning

Nanocarriers are submicroscopic, nanoscale systems, typically ranging from 1 to 100 nanometers in size, designed to encapsulate, transport, and deliver therapeutic agents, such as hormones or peptides, to specific target sites within the body. These advanced drug delivery vehicles include liposomes, polymeric nanoparticles, and solid lipid nanoparticles, offering a significant advantage in improving the solubility, stability, and controlled release kinetics of therapeutic compounds. Their clinical utility lies in enhancing drug efficacy while simultaneously minimizing systemic toxicity and off-target effects.
