Nail Matrix

Meaning

The specialized area of epithelial tissue located beneath the proximal nail fold, serving as the generative source for the nail plate. This highly proliferative tissue is responsible for producing the keratinized cells that ultimately form the entire structure of the nail. The health and functional integrity of the nail matrix are essential for normal nail growth, and any systemic disturbance, including hormonal imbalances or nutritional deficiencies, can manifest as visible changes in nail morphology or growth rate.
