N-Of-1 Intervention

Meaning

An N-Of-1 intervention, or single-subject trial, represents a rigorous experimental design where a treatment’s effect is evaluated within a single individual over time. This methodology systematically compares the impact of an intervention against a placebo or alternative treatment, or different doses, on specific clinical outcomes within the same patient. The primary objective is to determine the optimal therapeutic strategy for that particular individual, moving beyond population-level averages to personalize care.
