Myofiber Regeneration

Meaning

Myofiber Regeneration is the complex biological process of repairing and replacing damaged or necrotic skeletal muscle fibers following injury, such as that incurred during intense exercise or trauma. This highly coordinated process is mediated by specialized resident stem cells, known as satellite cells, which proliferate, differentiate, and fuse to form new muscle tissue. Successful regeneration is essential for maintaining muscle mass, strength, and overall musculoskeletal integrity throughout the lifespan.
