Myocyte Hypertrophy

Meaning

Myocyte hypertrophy refers to the increase in the size of individual muscle cells, or myocytes, rather than an increase in their number. This cellular enlargement is a fundamental biological response, particularly observed in cardiac and skeletal muscle, often occurring in response to sustained physiological demands or pathological stressors. It represents an adaptive or maladaptive remodeling process at the cellular level.
