Myocardium

Meaning

The myocardium represents the muscular tissue forming the middle layer of the heart wall, positioned between the endocardium and the epicardium. Composed primarily of specialized cardiac muscle cells known as cardiomyocytes, this vital tissue is solely responsible for the rhythmic contractions that pump blood throughout the circulatory system, maintaining systemic perfusion and oxygen delivery to all bodily tissues, including critical endocrine glands.
