Myocardial Resilience

Meaning

Myocardial Resilience is the intrinsic capacity of the heart muscle (myocardium) to withstand, adapt to, and rapidly recover from various physiological and pathological stressors, including ischemia, volume overload, and systemic inflammation. This is a measure of cardiovascular health that extends beyond simple pump function, reflecting the heart’s cellular and structural integrity, metabolic flexibility, and autonomic nervous system regulation. Optimal hormonal status, particularly with respect to thyroid hormones and sex steroids, is a critical determinant of this long-term cardiac robustness.
