Myocardial Mass

Meaning

Myocardial mass refers to the total volume and weight of the cardiac muscle tissue, or myocardium, of the heart, most commonly quantified for the left ventricle due to its critical role in systemic circulation. This metric is a vital clinical indicator of cardiovascular health and is frequently assessed using imaging techniques like echocardiography or cardiac MRI. Alterations in myocardial mass, such as hypertrophy or atrophy, often reflect the heart’s adaptation or maladaptation to various physiological and pathological stressors, including hormonal imbalances.
