Myocardial Infarction

Meaning

Myocardial infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, is a severe clinical event characterized by the irreversible necrosis, or death, of a portion of the heart muscle due to prolonged ischemia, which is a lack of adequate blood supply. This critical condition is typically caused by the occlusion of a coronary artery, often due to a ruptured atherosclerotic plaque. In hormonal health, systemic inflammation and hormonal dysregulation, such as low testosterone or high cortisol, are recognized risk factors for this cardiovascular event.
