Myocardial Infarction

Meaning

Myocardial Infarction, commonly known as a heart attack, is the pathological event defined by ischemic necrosis of heart muscle tissue due to prolonged, severe reduction in blood supply to the myocardium. This critical event often results from the rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque leading to coronary artery thrombosis, causing irreversible cellular injury. While primarily cardiovascular, the risk profile is intimately linked to chronic endocrine imbalances, such as dyslipidemia driven by hypothyroidism or severe insulin resistance.
