MYC Suppression

Meaning

MYC Suppression refers to the therapeutic or regulatory process of inhibiting the activity or expression of the MYC family of proto-oncogenes, particularly the c-Myc protein. The c-Myc transcription factor is a master regulator of cell growth, proliferation, metabolism, and apoptosis, and its aberrant overexpression is a hallmark of many aggressive human cancers, including hormone-refractory tumors. Successfully suppressing MYC activity is a major goal in oncology, as it can halt the uncontrolled growth and survival signals that drive malignant transformation. Achieving this suppression often involves targeting upstream signaling pathways or directly interfering with the protein’s transcriptional function.
