Musclespan Concept

Meaning

The Musclespan Concept defines the specific duration of an individual’s life during which they maintain sufficient high-quality skeletal muscle mass, maximal strength, and functional capacity to perform daily activities with complete independence and sustained vitality. It is recognized as a critical metric for healthspan, emphasizing that the progressive, age-related loss of muscle, clinically known as sarcopenia, is a primary driver of frailty, severe metabolic dysfunction, and reduced overall longevity. The central clinical goal is to maximize this functional “musclespan” so that it aligns closely with the overall chronological lifespan.
