Muscle Growth Inhibition

Meaning

The physiological state or process where the net rate of muscle protein breakdown exceeds or significantly counterbalances the rate of muscle protein synthesis, leading to a stagnation or reduction in lean muscle mass. This catabolic state is often driven by hormonal imbalances, such as elevated cortisol or low anabolic hormones, systemic inflammation, or insufficient nutritional signaling. Clinically, overcoming this inhibition is the primary challenge in treating sarcopenia and maintaining metabolic health.
