Muscle Fiber Synthesis Rate

Meaning

The quantifiable speed at which new myofibrillar proteins are created and integrated into existing or new muscle fibers, a process also known as muscle protein synthesis (MPS). This rate is the critical determinant of muscle hypertrophy and the primary countermeasure to sarcopenia, the age-related loss of muscle mass. It is a direct measure of the body’s anabolic efficiency.
