Morning Light Entrainment

Meaning

Morning Light Entrainment is the deliberate, therapeutic use of exposure to bright, high-intensity light, typically within the first hour of waking, as a primary zeitgeber to synchronize the body’s master biological clock, the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). This clinical practice is a non-pharmacological intervention crucial for optimizing the phase angle of the circadian rhythm, which in turn governs the timing of critical hormonal releases, including the Cortisol Awakening Response and nocturnal melatonin secretion. It is foundational for managing sleep-wake disorders and mood.
