Monoclonal Antibody

Meaning

A Monoclonal Antibody (mAb) is a therapeutic protein, manufactured in a laboratory, that is structurally identical to a naturally occurring antibody and is engineered to target a single, specific antigen or epitope. These highly precise biological agents are designed to recognize and bind to a single molecular target, such as a cell-surface receptor or a circulating cytokine, allowing for extremely focused pharmacological intervention. Monoclonal antibodies represent a cornerstone of targeted therapy in treating complex diseases, including those with inflammatory or oncological components related to hormonal dysfunction.
