Mitogenic Pathway

Meaning

A Mitogenic Pathway is a series of intracellular signaling events that, when activated by an external stimulus such as a growth factor or hormone, ultimately leads to cell proliferation, or mitosis. These pathways are essential for normal tissue growth, repair, and regeneration throughout the lifespan. However, in the context of hormonal health, excessive or unregulated mitogenic signaling, often driven by high levels of certain hormones or growth factors like IGF-1, can contribute to hyperplasia or pathological cell division. Clinical management requires a balanced approach to promote tissue repair without inducing unchecked cellular growth.
