Mitochondrial Permeability Transition Pore

Meaning

The Mitochondrial Permeability Transition Pore refers to a non-selective channel that forms transiently or persistently in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Its opening allows the passage of solutes up to approximately 1.5 kilodaltons, including ions and small molecules, thereby disrupting the mitochondrial membrane potential and leading to mitochondrial dysfunction.
