Mitochondrial Dysfunction

Meaning

Mitochondrial Dysfunction refers to a measurable impairment in the structure or function of the mitochondria, the cellular organelles responsible for generating the majority of a cell’s chemical energy, or ATP. This cellular energetic deficit is a hallmark of biological aging and a critical factor in the pathogenesis of numerous chronic conditions, including insulin resistance, neurodegeneration, and hormonal decline. The resulting inefficiency in energy production significantly impacts the high metabolic demands of endocrine glands and hormone-responsive tissues.
