Mitochondrial Bioenergetics

Meaning

Mitochondrial bioenergetics is the study of energy flow and transformation within the mitochondria, the organelles responsible for generating the vast majority of cellular energy in the form of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). This process is central to human physiology, as optimal cellular function, tissue repair, and hormonal synthesis are entirely dependent on efficient ATP production. Impairment in mitochondrial bioenergetics is a core feature of cellular aging and metabolic dysfunction.
