Minoxidil

Meaning

Minoxidil is a pharmaceutical agent, originally developed as an oral antihypertensive, that is now widely utilized as a topical treatment for androgenetic alopecia, commonly known as male and female pattern hair loss. This medication is a potent peripheral vasodilator, and its mechanism in hair growth involves enhancing blood flow and prolonging the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle. Clinicians prescribe Minoxidil to slow hair loss progression and stimulate follicular growth, providing a non-hormonal therapeutic option. The effectiveness of the treatment is often dose-dependent and requires consistent, long-term application.
