Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

Meaning

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is a structured, standardized eight-week program that utilizes intensive training in mindfulness meditation and gentle Hatha yoga to systematically cultivate non-judgmental awareness of the present moment. Clinically, it is employed as a psychotherapeutic intervention to reduce symptoms associated with chronic stress, anxiety, and pain by altering the psychological and physiological response to stressful stimuli. In hormonal health, MBSR can indirectly support endocrine balance by mitigating the chronic activation of the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis.
