Mindfulness and Oxytocin

Meaning

Mindfulness and Oxytocin describes the neurobiological relationship between the deliberate practice of non-judgmental present moment awareness and the endogenous release of the neuropeptide oxytocin. The sustained calm and focus achieved through mindfulness is theorized to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, which subsequently facilitates the secretion of oxytocin. This hormone is deeply associated with feelings of social connection, trust, and profound stress reduction.
