Microvascular Health

Meaning

Microvascular health refers to the optimal structural integrity and functional capacity of the body’s smallest blood vessels, including arterioles, capillaries, and venules, which are essential for efficient tissue perfusion and the exchange of nutrients, oxygen, and metabolic waste products. Maintaining robust microvascular health is critical for preventing tissue ischemia, supporting the delivery of hormones to target cells, and mitigating the long-term complications of metabolic and endocrine diseases like diabetes. Dysfunction in this network is often an early indicator of systemic pathology.
