Microvascular Endothelium

Meaning

The microvascular endothelium constitutes the single layer of specialized endothelial cells lining the inner surface of the body’s smallest blood vessels, including capillaries, arterioles, and venules. This dynamic cellular barrier is crucial for regulating the exchange of gases, nutrients, and hormones between the blood and surrounding tissues, fundamentally controlling tissue perfusion and oxygenation. Endothelial dysfunction in the microvasculature is an early and significant indicator of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases often linked to hormonal imbalances.
