MicroRNA Expression

Meaning

MicroRNA expression refers to the biological process of transcribing and utilizing small, non-coding RNA molecules, typically about 22 nucleotides long, known as microRNAs (miRNAs or miRs). These molecules do not code for proteins but instead function as powerful post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression. The precise pattern and quantity of microRNA expression in a cell determine which messenger RNAs (mRNAs) are suppressed or degraded, fundamentally influencing cellular fate and function.
