Microbial Dysbiosis

Meaning

Microbial dysbiosis refers to an imbalance or alteration in the composition and functional capacity of the microbial communities residing within a host organism, most notably in the gastrointestinal tract. This deviation from a healthy, stable microbial state can involve a reduction in beneficial commensal bacteria, an increase in potentially pathogenic microorganisms, or a decrease in overall microbial diversity. Such shifts disrupt the delicate equilibrium essential for optimal physiological processes.
