Microalbuminuria

Meaning

The clinical condition characterized by the persistent, abnormal excretion of small but detectable amounts of albumin protein in the urine, specifically between 30 and 300 milligrams per day. This finding is a significant early biomarker of generalized endothelial dysfunction and incipient nephropathy, particularly in individuals with chronic metabolic conditions like Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and hypertension. It serves as a crucial warning sign for progressive kidney and cardiovascular disease.
