Methyltestosterone

Meaning

Methyltestosterone is a synthetic, orally active anabolic-androgenic steroid, chemically derived from the primary endogenous androgen, testosterone, by adding a methyl group at the 17-alpha position. This structural modification was engineered to enhance oral bioavailability by reducing the hepatic first-pass metabolism, making it one of the earliest synthetic androgens available for clinical use. It is prescribed for conditions related to androgen deficiency and certain breast cancers, but its use is limited by a less favorable side-effect profile compared to newer compounds.
