Metastatic Aging

Meaning

Metastatic Aging is a conceptual model describing the systemic, non-local propagation of cellular senescence and dysfunction from an initially compromised tissue or organ to distant, healthy tissues throughout the body. Similar to the spread of cancer, this model posits that localized aging can “metastasize” via the circulatory system through the release of pro-inflammatory and pro-senescence signaling molecules, collectively known as the Senescence-Associated Secretory Phenotype (SASP). This process accelerates global biological decline and drives multi-morbidity.
