Metabolism-Disrupting Chemicals

Meaning

Metabolism-Disrupting Chemicals, or MDCs, are exogenous synthetic or naturally occurring substances that interfere with the body’s normal metabolic and energy-regulating processes. These chemicals, which include obesogens and certain endocrine-disrupting chemicals, can alter adipogenesis, modulate glucose homeostasis, and dysregulate thyroid hormone signaling. Exposure to MDCs represents a significant, non-genetic risk factor for chronic metabolic diseases and endocrine imbalance.
