Metabolic Tempo

Meaning

Metabolic Tempo refers to the dynamic rate and rhythm at which an individual’s body processes energy, synthesizes molecules, and executes catabolic and anabolic reactions over a 24-hour cycle. This tempo is intrinsically linked to the circadian rhythm and is highly influenced by the timing of light exposure, feeding, and physical activity. A robust and flexible metabolic tempo allows for efficient nutrient partitioning, optimal hormone secretion timing, and rapid adaptation to varying energy demands. Disruptions to this tempo, often seen in shift work or chronic jet lag, can lead to insulin resistance and endocrine dysregulation.
