Metabolic Syndrome and Hypogonadism

Meaning

Metabolic Syndrome and Hypogonadism refers to the frequently observed clinical phenomenon where a cluster of metabolic risk factors coexists with a deficiency in sex hormones. Metabolic Syndrome is defined by the presence of at least three out of five criteria: increased waist circumference, elevated triglycerides, reduced HDL cholesterol, elevated blood pressure, and elevated fasting glucose, significantly increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. Hypogonadism, in this context, typically involves low testosterone levels in men or, less commonly, estrogen deficiency in women, characterized by symptoms arising from insufficient gonadal hormone production.
