Metabolic Signaling Fidelity

Meaning

The accuracy and reliability with which metabolic signals, such as those from insulin, leptin, or thyroid hormones, are transmitted from the cell surface receptor to the ultimate downstream cellular machinery without significant attenuation or distortion. High fidelity ensures that the intended metabolic outcome—like glucose uptake or thermogenesis—occurs as programmed. Loss of fidelity underlies many chronic metabolic dysfunctions.
