Metabolic Rigidity

Meaning

Metabolic rigidity is a pathological state characterized by the body’s diminished capacity to efficiently switch between utilizing different energy substrates, such as glucose and fatty acids. This lack of metabolic flexibility is a hallmark of insulin resistance and is frequently associated with impaired mitochondrial function and reduced overall energy efficiency. Clinically, it manifests as difficulty managing weight, fluctuating energy levels, and increased risk for cardiometabolic disorders.
