Metabolic Rhythms

Meaning

Metabolic rhythms refer to the endogenous, cyclical fluctuations in an organism’s metabolic processes, including energy production, nutrient utilization, and waste excretion. These predictable oscillations are primarily synchronized by the body’s intrinsic circadian clock system, adapting physiological function to the predictable 24-hour environmental cycle of light and darkness, as well as feeding and fasting.
