Metabolic-Inflammatory Axis

Meaning

The Metabolic-Inflammatory Axis represents the critical, vicious cycle of bidirectional communication and functional interdependence between metabolic dysregulation, such as insulin resistance and visceral adiposity, and chronic, low-grade systemic inflammation. This pathological axis describes how poor metabolic health promotes inflammatory signaling, which in turn actively exacerbates metabolic dysfunction, creating a core, underlying pathology in numerous chronic diseases, including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Therapeutic strategies must address both components for meaningful longevity benefits.
