Metabolic Function Decline

Meaning

Metabolic Function Decline is the progressive, age-related reduction in the efficiency and capacity of cellular and systemic processes to generate, utilize, and regulate energy substrates. This decline is characterized by impaired insulin sensitivity, mitochondrial dysfunction, reduced basal metabolic rate, and an increasing inability to effectively switch between fuel sources. It is a fundamental driver of chronic disease and biological aging. This physiological state severely compromises adaptive capacity.
