Metabolic Endotype

Meaning

Metabolic Endotype refers to a distinct, underlying biological mechanism or pathway that drives a specific clinical presentation of metabolic dysfunction, such as obesity, insulin resistance, or type 2 diabetes. Unlike a simple phenotype, which describes the observable traits, the endotype classifies patients based on the specific, measurable molecular or physiological root cause of their disease. Identifying a patient’s endotype is the foundation of precision metabolic medicine.
