Metabolic Endotoxemia

Meaning

Metabolic Endotoxemia refers to a chronic, low-grade systemic inflammatory state caused by the increased translocation of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS), or endotoxin, from the gut lumen into the systemic circulation. This persistent exposure to microbial products drives metabolic dysfunction, notably inducing insulin resistance and contributing to visceral adiposity accumulation. It represents a critical link between gut barrier integrity and systemic hormonal health.
