Metabolic Drag

Meaning

Metabolic Drag is a physiological state characterized by a significant, sustained energy expenditure required for non-essential or suboptimal metabolic processes, thereby diverting valuable resources away from performance-critical functions like cognitive processing or physical endurance. This pervasive “drag” manifests clinically as chronic fatigue, post-meal sluggishness, and reduced overall vitality and enthusiasm. Clinically, it often correlates with underlying insulin resistance, chronic systemic inflammation, and an over-reliance on glucose as the body’s primary fuel source.
