Metabolic Decay

Meaning

Metabolic Decay is the clinical term describing the progressive, age-related decline in the efficiency and robustness of fundamental biological processes, resulting in a reduced basal metabolic rate and impaired energy homeostasis. This physiological decline is characterized by decreased mitochondrial function, increased insulin resistance, and a chronic, low-grade inflammatory state. The clinical consequence is an increased propensity for fat accumulation, sarcopenia, and chronic disease development.
