Metabolic Cognitive Decline

Meaning

Metabolic cognitive decline is a clinical concept describing the progressive impairment of cognitive functions, such as memory and executive processing, that is primarily driven by underlying metabolic dysregulation, including insulin resistance, chronic hyperglycemia, and dyslipidemia. This decline is viewed as a consequence of systemic metabolic stress affecting neuronal function, cerebral blood flow, and energy utilization within the brain. Addressing the root metabolic issues is therefore a critical therapeutic target for slowing or reversing this form of cognitive impairment.
