Meningeal Lymphatic Drainage

Meaning

Meningeal Lymphatic Drainage refers to the recently discovered network of conventional lymphatic vessels situated within the dura mater, the outermost layer of the meninges surrounding the brain and spinal cord. These vessels serve as the critical conduit for draining cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), interstitial fluid (ISF), immune cells, and metabolic waste products, including neurotoxic proteins, from the central nervous system into the deep cervical lymph nodes. Efficient drainage is vital for immune surveillance and maintaining the delicate fluid balance of the brain.
