MEN1

Meaning

MEN1, or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 1, denotes a rare, inherited genetic disorder characterized by the development of tumors in multiple endocrine glands. These tumors primarily affect the parathyroid glands, pituitary gland, and pancreatic islets, though other endocrine and non-endocrine tissues may also be involved. The condition arises from a germline mutation in the MEN1 gene, which normally functions as a tumor suppressor.
