MEN 2

Meaning

MEN 2, or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2, is a rare, inherited syndrome characterized by the development of tumors in multiple endocrine glands, most notably the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands. It is a genetically defined condition with a high penetrance, requiring proactive screening and management due to the high risk of aggressive malignancies, particularly medullary thyroid carcinoma. The condition is sub-classified into MEN 2A and MEN 2B based on the specific constellation of associated tumors.
